Basement Floor Coating in Colorado Springs: Before & After

Basement Floor Coating in Colorado Springs: Before & After

Bright white glossy epoxy basement floor coating by Coating Kings, Colorado Springs home

Basements are one of the most underused spaces in Colorado Springs homes. Old carpet, peeling vinyl and years of glue leave the concrete looking rough, and the room never feels finished. On a recent project our locally owned and operated crew turned exactly that kind of basement into a bright, clean, usable space with a high-gloss floor coating.

The starting point: bare concrete and old adhesive

When we arrived, the previous flooring had already been pulled up. What was left was a slab covered in a grid of dark adhesive lines, patches and stains. Paint or a roll-on kit would never bond well to a surface like that, and any glue left behind would show through.

Step 1: Diamond grinding the slab

Every Coating Kings floor starts with diamond grinding. We grind a thin layer off the top of the concrete to remove adhesive, sealers and contamination and open up the surface so the base coat can bond properly. Our grinders are connected to industrial dust extraction, so the rest of the home stays clean.

Step 2: Base coat, color and top coat

With clean, profiled concrete, we installed our premium base coat and finished it with a durable, glossy top coat. For this basement the homeowner chose a solid bright white finish instead of a decorative flake, which gives the room a clean, modern look and reflects the light from the recessed fixtures and small basement windows.

The finished basement floor

After: the same room with a seamless, high-gloss finish

The difference is night and day. The room looks larger and brighter, and there are no grout lines or carpet fibers to trap dust. Spills wipe right up.

Why coat a basement floor?

  • Brighter space: a gloss finish bounces light around below-grade rooms.
  • Easy to clean: a seamless surface with nothing to trap dust or allergens.
  • Durable: stands up to furniture, storage, workout equipment and foot traffic.
  • Flexible look: go solid color like this project or choose a flake color blend.
  • Fast: most installs are completed in one day.

Tips if you are planning a basement floor coating

  • Tell us about any past water issues or cracks when you request an estimate so we can plan prep and repairs.
  • Plan to clear the room, or ask us what we can work around.
  • Think about how you will use the space. Gyms, playrooms and storage areas often suit flake; home theaters and offices look great in solid color.
